Philosophy | Why? | Green Cross-Country Code | Put-downs
From here you can read about the philosophy behind Ride to Roam, the reasons why we want greater access, the "Green Cross-Country Code" and a few choice put-downs for people who insist on being miserable gits.
Please bear in mind, as cyclists we're not anti-walker (or anti-Landrover, or anti-anyone else) and we have no objection to sharing trails in a responsible manner with anyone who will also behave responsibly and be polite and pleasant in return. What we do take exception to is people being miserable, objectionable or downright obnoxious for no good reason - we're not out to spoil their day, why should we put up with them trying to spoil ours? Unfortunately, a minority of trail users do behave in this manner and of this number, most happen to be on foot (other trail users being miserable simply tend to ignore us!).
If you don't agree with us on the general principle that we do something that you don't do (i.e., ride bikes, have fun, etc.) then we would ask you to read these sections with an open mind. Although, if you disagree with anyone on the general principle that they're different to you, the chances of you remembering what an open mind is are fairly slim, aren't they? Think back to your childhood, you probably had an open mind for at least a couple of years after your birth. Probably.
Of course, that's assuming you had a childhood.
